In 2017 Katie successfully defended her client who was the subject of private prosecution proceedings.

She acted for a finance director of a company accused of theft of a consignment of plastics. Katie made representations to the CPS and asked that it take over and discontinue proceedings. The representations were successful. The private prosecutor appealed that decision and was ultimately unsuccessful, but the decision gave rise to an application for judicial review and subsequently, an important judgement on the Court of Appeal’s jurisdiction in private prosecutions.
