R v K – Sexual Assault at Southwark Crown Court – 2024

Andy’s client, Dr K, an established Harley Street Doctor, was unanimously acquitted by a Jury sitting at Southwark Crown Court in relation to 8 separate counts of sexual assault in December 2024. It was alleged that our client had sexually assaulted a female part time administrative assistant over a 3-month period towards the end of 2021.

Dr K, a consultant geriatrician, has practiced in the Harley Street area for many decades and had worked previously for the World Health Organisation and United Nations in a long and distinguished career. Dr K was aged 77 at the time of the allegations and had vehemently denied them from the outset.

The allegations were that our client had committed a series of sexual assaults against the complainant on a number of occasions within the offices and communal areas of his business premises between October and December 2021. The prosecution relied upon so called evidence of early complainant and a series of covert audio recordings made by the complainant of her speaking with our client on the 16th December 2021. The complainant would seek advice from a solicitor’s firm before later resigning and only then reporting the matter to police.

Our client had strongly denied touching the complainant at any time in the manner as alleged and that the allegations were fabricated after the complainant had misconstrued his old-fashioned and somewhat eccentric communication style and saw an opportunity to make a claim against him.

A part of our clients defence a large number of defence witnesses, including both current and former staff members, his personal trainer, lodger and former wife provided witness testimony with regards to Dr K’s regular business practices, including him employing a very large number of ad-hoc interns and graduates over the years to assist with IT and administrative duties all without complaint.

Following a trial lasting 8 days Dr K was unanimously acquitted by the Jury of each count that he faced, bringing an approaching 3-year ordeal to a conclusion for him.

Special thanks to instructed Counsel, the remarkable Gudrun Young KC of 2 Hare Court who was exceptional as ever throughout proceedings.
