SRA Transparency Rules and costs information
The SRA Transparency Rules 2018 require authorised firms to publish costs information about the provision of certain services. This applies to representation at the Magistrates’ Court in relation to summary only motoring offences under Part I of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and s89 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Example (Fixed Fee)
Drink Driving offences, Guilty plea – fixed fee £2000 + VAT
Fee includes:
- 2 hours attendance/preparation, considering evidence and taking your instructions
- Taking statements from no more than 2 witnesses. (additional costs at our hourly rate will apply if there are more)
- Explain court procedures to you so you know what to expect when you attend court.
- Advice on likely sentence
- Representation/advocacy at a single hearing in the Magistrates Court (additional costs at our hourly rate will apply for any further hearings)
- Our hourly rates are between £300 to £500 depending on the level of fee earner
- Advice on appeal will carry an additional cost, our hourly rate will apply
Timescales of hearing dates are provided by the court. How long we have to spend at Court is entirely dependent on the Court listing, other cases in the Court list and the complexity of your case.
The fee does not include:
- Instructing expert witnesses
- Advice and assistance in relation to a special reasons hearing
- Advice on appeal
